Mentoring Services for SpLD Assessors
As an experienced dyslexia and dyscalculia assessor, I get a lot of pleasure supporting others who undertake the same role. Mentoring can be extremely helpful whether you’ve just achieved your Level 7 qualification, you’re about to renew your Assessment Practising Certificate for the 3rd time, or even just as part of your ongoing CPD. Simply put, professional discussions are invaluable to us all and inevitably promote good practice!
The following 1:1 mentoring packages are ‘tried and tested’ but it is always possible to devise something more bespoke, should this be required. Please use the contact form, below, if you would like to enquire about support.
Alternatively, scroll down a little further for details of online small group mentoring.
A) 2-hour mentoring package for APC renewal (£130) - This typically involves the assessor sending over a diagnostic report for me to review against the 15 SASC APC renewal criteria. Feedback is then sent back to you (within a week) so you can initially go through it in your own time. A follow-up Zoom meeting (30 minutes) then takes place when you can ask questions relating to the feedback and discuss anything that has come to light during the review process.

B) New assessor mentoring package (£130) - This follows the same pattern as the above package, however, rather than formally using the SASC APC renewal criteria, feedback on your submitted report focuses on ensuring your report-writing and diagnostic decision-making are sound.
C) Online Personalised Q&A package (£130) - For experienced assessors who just want a regular opportunity to ask questions and discuss tricky profiles, which supplementary tests they need to use or how they might improve a particular section of their reports (for example) this package can be particularly valuable. It comprises 3 x 40 min 1:1 Zoom meetings, which are scheduled when the need arises. Often, assessors book them once a month, but there is no time limit or need to specify at the time of booking the dates/times they might be required.
D) Bespoke packages - Please contact me for an informal discussion if none of the above packages is likely to meet your needs.
A certificate evidencing your engagement with the professional mentoring process will be forwarded to you upon completion of the package. This can be used as an entry in your CPD log, which will contribute to your next APC renewal.
Small group mentoring – online
In 2026, I started hosting regular small group meetings on Teams, for assessors who wanted to get together with other like-minded individuals to learn and share. The sessions, which last an hour and a quarter, each focus on a specific area of assessing and reporting, and new tests and updates. They always include time for informal Q&As and discussion too. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with participating assessors saying how much they value the opportunity to connect more closely with other SpLD professionals. Hence, the group meetings are limited to eight.
Each group mentoring session is held at least twice per month and can be booked on a ‘pay-as-you’ go basis (£22 per session); there is no annual joining fee. Details of the planned content are always emailed out to those who have registered an interest. To book a place for the July session, which will look at assessing language skills, the 'Extended Investigation' section of a report (and the use of the Movement ABC screener), please use one of the links below or, for more information, complete the contact form and send me a message.
Wed 8th July – 6:30pm https://www.ticketsource.com/booking/t-xdazdpo
Friday 10th July – 1pm https://www.ticketsource.com/booking/t-dkjlkyr
As with the 1:1 mentoring, participants are always issued with a certificate, and it is advised that you include sessions on your CPD log, ready for your next APC renewal.
